What causes nausea and vomiting in pregnancy?
Your nausea or “morning sickness” is caused by high levels of pregnancy hormones flooding your body. It’s very common. Up to nine out of ten pregnant women experience nausea or vomiting.
Now that you’re pregnant, your body is producing the hormone human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) in large quantities. This hormone makes sure that your baby gets what he needs from your body in the early weeks. Once the placenta takes over nourishing your baby, HCG levels drop and your nausea should ease.
“Morning Sickness” ironically enough, can strike at any time day or night!
Here are a few natural remedies you can try, to help relieve it..
- Freeze energy drinks into ice cube trays and when you can’t seem to keep anything down and may be feeling a little dehydrated pop an ice cube in your mouth, sucking on one of these will ease the nausea while also replenishing electrolytes.
- Lemon slices in water
- Peppermint tea/sweets
- Ginger tea or ice pops
- Dry toast
- Salty crackers
- Foods rich in vitamin b6 e.g. avocado or bananas
- Eat smaller meals often
